• This makes about six servings.
  • 1 lb. ground beef (15% fat is best)
  • 1 cup of soft bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon onion, chopped fine
  • 2 large garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 1/2 cup of ham chopped fine
  • 1 tablespoon of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup, divided

Preheat your oven to 350 F. Lightly mix all the ingredients until well combined using only half of the ketchup. Shape mixture into a loaf and place on a greased 10" x 15" jelly roll pan, or in a loaf pan. Spread the remaining ketchup on top of the meat loaf. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from oven when the internal temperature reaches 165 F.

I found the original version of this recipe in a cookbook from the 1920s. It is very good served with mashed potatoes, green peas and a simple Sweet and Sour Sauce, also from the 1920s.
