Dorothy Ryan's Rum Balls


Ingredients

  • This should make 20 to 30 rum balls.
  •  
  • 1 cup of crushed vanilla wafer crumbs
  • 1 cup of pecans, broken
  • 1 cup of sifted powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of white Karo syrup
  • 2 Tablespoons of cocoa
  • 1/4 cup rum
  • additional powdered sugar for rolling


Directions

Mix, shape into small balls and then roll in powdered sugar.

Notes

For many years at the holiday season, a box of tasty rum balls would arrive in New York City--and later Southern California--postmarked Summit, Mississippi. The package also included a date nut cake. Both the cake and rum balls were hidden beneath pine branches and holly leaves with bright red berries. It just smelled like Christmas!
